Stopping smoking can be one of the most effective changes you can make to improve your health. You are never to old to make a change! The graph below shows how our lung function (FEV1) changes with age. Once our lung function drops below about the 30% mark, people start to notice symptoms such as breathlessness. As you can see from the graph, stopping smoking will slow a person's decline in lung function, no matter what age- the sooner you make the decision to quit, the more impact this will have.
There is a smoking cessation support service offered by Noth Yorkshire County Council. Details can be found at https://www.northyorks.gov.uk/stopping-smoking Their website also has some helpful resources for you in your journey to a smoke-free life.
