Pre-hospital care

The practice provides support to Yorkshire Ambulance Service in managing emergencies. This can be telephone support to paramedics to offer patients an alternative to attending A&E if the condition does not present as an immediate threat to life. The outcome may be an urgent appointment at the practice or GP home visit.

Yorkshire Ambulance Service may also ask the doctors to attend serious or life-threatening medical problems, such as road traffic collisions or illnesses where access is difficult, there may not be an immediate ambulance resource in the area or where advanced treatment interventions are required to stabilise patients before transfer to hospital. Dr Brookes has been a volunteer member of this scheme since 2007.

There is also the opportunity to work with our colleagues in the North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service as well as the Swaledale Mountain Rescue Team.
