Sexual Health

Contraceptive advice and all sexual health matters covered on the Family Planning Association Website.  Northallerton Genito-Urinary medicine clinic can be contacted on 01609 764209 for confidential advice or to arrange an appointment.  Alternatively there are contraception and sexual health clinics at the Friary Hospital (Richmond) on Tuesday afternoons and evenings (01748 822122 to book an appointment) and also at the Harewood Medical Centre (Catterick Garrison) on Wednesdays (01748 833431 to book an appointment).

 

Drugs

Talk to Frank is a website which provides information and advice about drug dependency.  It is designed to help those with problems and also their family and friends.  It is also good for parents concerned that there may be a problem.

The NHS has produced a series of informative, plain-english leaflets to provide further information to patients.  Type the name of the condition into the search engine on the website for futher information.

Physiotherapy

Patients can access Physio Direct by telephone.  This scheme does not require referral from a GP and can provide self management advice for acute problems and also more longstanding problems in those aged over 16.  You can also be seen and treated quickly if you cannot be helped over the phone.  Call 01609 783388 Mon-Fri 0800-1600hrs.

Child Health

Getting a good start in life is essential-the NHS provides a scheme for those on income support to have vouchers for healthy foods and there are also local initiatives such as sure start and child carelink.  There is also information about your baby's sleeping and feeding as well as advice about vaccinations and meningitis. Mental Health

Information including self treatment for depression.  North Yorkshire County Libraries have a book therapy scheme which provides free loan of self-help material recommended by local mental health care professionals covering topics such as anxiety, stress, depression, relationship problems and anger management. Computerised cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is often as effective as medication for treating generalised anxiety and mild depression-in fact it has shown greater success long-term compared to drug treatment on its own. Treatment is available free from this site.
